Have you ever been to Hawaii???

Attention: ALL READERS!!!! Even if you are a blog stalker your comments are wanted. Russ and I have been planning a vacation to Hawaii for a while now. We will go next December (it will be our 10 year anniversary). We have been looking at a lot of options on line. There is so much to do and see it is almost overwhelming. SO--if any one has ever been to Hawaii that has any suggestions they are most welcomed. We can take a 14 day cruise and spend a few days on the island for the same price to fly and stay a couple of days. My idea is I don't want to be on a boat and get sick for that many days. I want to do as much on the island as we can. We don't know if we should just do tourist/romantic stuff-or do adventurous stuff. Whatever info you can give is appreciated.

You should talk to Corrie and Cassie both went to Hawaii for their honeymoons. Corrie and Kolyer did the cruise and got sick and wasn't impressed. Cassie and Tyler just stayed on the islands, having never been I can't give you much info on what they saw and enjoyed the most. Lyns and Bart are also planning a Hawaii trip for their ten aniversary in Jan. One of these days I will go...but Mark has no desire to fly so he will have to stay home:(

Lucky Lucky lady!!! what fun Hawaii is!! I've been to the island of Oahu and its wonderful. I'm not sure how much time you will have on the island but if you have the chance to Polonysian Cultural Center is an amazing place (and most of the workers are students at BYU) There is sooo much to do on Oahu! There is...hiking Diamond Head...going snorkeling at Hanama Bay (sp?)...seeing Pearl Harbor...shopping at the Aloha Stadium Swap meet...eating shaved ice at Matsumoto's...watching the sunset at Sunset Beach...going to a Lua at Paradise Cove. hmm...soo much more I can think of. If you only have a day I would try for the Polonysian Cultural Center. Have fun planning...get a Hawaiian Islands for Dummy's book. :-)

I am pretty much very jealous:) Never been but really want to. We decided our 10th Anniversary is taking the kids to Disneyland, before they aren't dying to see the princesses anymore:)

You will have SO much fun:)

My advice to you would be to go to Hawaii and just stay on an island. I do not suggest the cruise its too much time on a boat and not enough time to see how beautiful hawaii is. Plus we were way sick on the boat and slept most the time.

Hey Marcie!! It is good to hear from you. I have added you as one of my friends because I just love ya too!!
So Hawaii, I am jealous!! Tyler and I have been wanting to go back since we went for our honeymoon. We were going to try and go just this last summer but couldn't. Costs have gone way up. We went to Maui and absolutely LOVED it. We left on Sunday at noon and got there at about three over there. By the time we got our luggage, our rental car, and checked into our hotel, we had just enough time to grab some Pizza run across the street to the beach and watch the sunset. It was great!! We stayed in Kihei, it is about 30-45 min from Lahaina. There were some really nice beaches really close to Kihei. We didn't go through a travel agent or anything. We just would wake up and say, "Okay, what should we do today? Beach, Okay!!" It was really nice,we thought. We also did the road to Hana which is very pretty with lots of Waterfalls and different Hikes you can do if you feel ambitious. It takes all day or longer depending on how much you stop. One day we also went to the top of the Volcano. There are some cool look outs but the day we went it was cloudy at the top and we couldn't see the look outs all that well, it was still cool. We also drove up to Lahaina several times for dinner. There are some great places to eat. We absolutely loved Bubba Gump Shrimp. We went there twice. There is also a place called Kimo's that is good.
Anyways, let me know if you are more interested in Maui. My husband could go on for hours talking to you about it.
So if you want to go for the beaches and pretty scenery I suggest Maui. That is the only Island I have been to but we talked to a lot of people before we went and a lot suggested it. My one friend went to Maui and Oahu but like Maui better. If you are really into history you would probably like Oahu but you can island hop for like $50. So there and back for you and your husband would be like $200. We didn't do that but my husbands sister did because she loves history but like Maui.
Let me know if you have some specific questions. I would love to tell you more.

yeah for hawaii! I have never been. We have been on a cruise though. I am not sure if you have been on one or not but it was so fun. We didnt get sick at all. We just went to mexico. Hawaii would be way better! LUCKY. Whatever you choose to do will be fun to get away with no kids(even though I know you will miss them!)

You are going to love Hawaii! I am so jealous...will I fit in a suitcase? Shane and I went with my family when I was about five months pregnant with Demi and I still had a great time. We visited Maui and Oahu. Maui was by far my favorite part. We just sat on the beach, ate, and relaxed and if we ever go again (which I would love to) Maui would be the place. But, if you are going to Hawaii you really should see Pearl Harbor, the Cultural Center, Stadium Swap Meet (yeah..shopping), and for sure do some snorkeling! Just to say you've been there done that..right!

You figure that trip out and then save your info so that when I get to go to Hawaii you can tell me what I should do!

Hey I am one of those "blog stalkers" I found you through Megan and Larry.
Anyway - I actually live on Oahu and thought I would leave a comment, though the advice you have been given is really good. One thing you must have is a rental car. No matter how much it costs! I would also try to do all of the tourist things, but if you can try some adventure excursions that would be fun too. They have a lot of scuba places on Wiakiki and you don't have to be certified. Of course you can't go very deep, but it might be worth it to you just to try. There are also a lot of other high adventure things.
If you can try not to book a hotel on Waikiki. The traffic is terrible down there and most of the stuff you will want to see is away from the city, but if you do it will be alright.
I would go get the book Oahu Revealed by Andrew Doughty and Harriett Friedman. It is an awesome book! They give you advice on everything there is to do. Where to go, where to eat, what not to do... things like that. They also give great directions to a lot of places! We still use that book to find things we have not done.
One thing I would like to do is visit another island. If you have time that would be great too. Just because Oahu is very modernized.
So I thought I would give you a list of things you "might" want to look into
- PCC - They have a lot of different ticket options. If you are really into learning about the different cultures I would get the all day ticket, if you just want a taste of the cutltures I would go for the ticket that lets you in the gate at 5 and includes the dinner and show. I prefer that ticket because it is cheaper and the show kinda goes through the different cultures anyway.
- Laie Point
- North shore - there are a ton of beachers on the north shore. I would stop at a few of them depending on how much time you have. There is also a beautiful hike in the Waimea Valley. Sharks Cove has great scuba diving!
- Dole Pineapple Plantation - you will pass this on your way up to the north shore. You can do a huge maze and ride a train around the plantation.
- Snorkeling at Hanama Bay - FYI -It is closed on Tuesdays. It also costs $5 to park and $5 per person to snorkel
- Diamond Head - It might be hard to find parking, but well worth it!
- Pearl Harbor - they also have the USS missouri right by the memorial if you want to tour it.
- Shopping at the stadium - Open Wed. Sat. and Sun. until 3. You can find all of your souvenirs here for great prices.
- Hikes - Waimea Falls, Manoa Falls, and there is a hike called Stairway to Heaven, but it is not open to the public. I have seen people on it though. I would like to try that someday.
- Pali lookout
I am sure I will think of more later! Be prepared to pay for parking pretty much every where you go. Usually around $5. Good luck and I hope this helped a little! Just don't over schedule your days. There is a lot to do, but you won't enjoy it if you have too many things to do. Pick a few that you really would like and relax. I hope you enjoy your trip! Oh and December is a wet month, so be ready for rain!

hey just getting away with out any kids is going to be great in itself! But yeah, I would suggest staying on Oahu for the whole time too, and you still won't be able to see everything! I am super excited for you two! Weird that you will be married for 10 years! I guess we aren't newlyweds or on our 1st kid anymore huh?!
